To install CFOUR, the following commands should be executed:

gunzip cfour_v1.tar.gz
tar xvf cfour_v1.tar
cd cfour_v1
configure (for options, try configure --help)
gmake

After a lot of output, you will find the compiled binaries in the directory cfour_rc/bin and the basis set files in the directory cfour_rc/basis.
